The series of international alumni meetups continues. This time, it reached Asia.
Mongolia has a long tradition of students choosing Czechia, and former Czechoslovakia, as their study destination. Many Mongolian alumni still remember their time there with warmth. The meetup in Ulaanbaatar gave them a chance to return to those memories, reconnect with one another, and celebrate the ties between Mongolia and Czechia.

l Education and Research (DZS), established by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar, organised the first-ever Czechia alumni meetup in Mongolia. Alumni from different generations, fields, and Czech universities came together, united by one shared experience: studying in Czechia or former Czechoslovakia.
The event was also special for another reason. It was the first alumni meetup held mainly in Czech, as many attendees still remember the language from their studies. 
This reflects the long tradition of educational ties between the two countries. More than 1% of Mongolia’s population has studied or spent time in former Czechoslovakia, and Czech-speaking Mongolians can still be met in everyday life as well as during official meetings. More than 100 alumni of all ages joined the event to share their personal stories, talk about their life and career journeys, reconnect with Czechia, and refresh the language that still connects many of them to their study years.
The meetup on June 13, 2026 was part of the all-day Czech Street Party at the Czech Embassy in Ulaanbaatar. The programme offered visitors a chance to experience Czech culture from many angles, including Czech music, food, drinks, and dancing. 
Visitors could also learn more about study opportunities in Czechia at the DZS stand. Soňa Lippmann, Head of the Communication and Analytical Division at DZS, highlighted the importance of maintaining ties between the two countries through international students and alumni.
Throughout the day, alumni visited the DZS stand and spoke with representatives about their memories of Czechia. At 3 pm, they gathered at the Sky Plaza restaurant for the alumni meetup.
The event opened with remarks from Jan Vytopil, H.E. Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Mongolia. He thanked the attendees for joining and emphasized the unity and solidarity 
of the Czech-Mongolian community. "I would be very glad to see this alumni community continue to grow and stay connected. More than 2,400 Mongolian students are currently studying in Czechia, and I hope you will use this opportunity to learn more about study options and ways to stay in touch," he said.
He was followed by Michal Uhl, Director of DZS, who warmly welcomed the alumni and said “We have here today alumni who graduated in the 1950s as well as alumni who finished their studies recently. It is really important for us to support international alumni around the globe. We want you to seize this opportunity to connect and build an even stronger relationship between Czechia and Mongolia.”
The programme continued with personal stories from two alumni, Enkhtuya Enkhtaivan and Tumenjargal Chuluunbaatar. They spoke about their studies, their memories of Czechia, and the role this experience played in their lives. Their favourite memories include their study mentors' help and attitude, Czech hospitality and dedication.
After a group photo, alumni received bingo cards and began the networking part of the evening. The activity helped guests start conversations, meet new people, and reconnect with old friends. The evening soon turned into a warm and friendly gathering full of shared memories, laughter, and Czech words.
One of the alumni present was Amartuvshin Bulgantamir, 
who graduated from the Technical University of Liberec in 2019, with a focus on nanotechnology. Today, his work helps build connections between Mongolia and Czechia in this field. His experience shows that even a study journey in a small country in the heart of Europe can grow into something impactful, with international reach.
Another alumnus we met Gombojav Otgonbayar, CEO of Eagle Broadcasting Company and a graduate of Masaryk University, where he studied business and economics. He says his education in Czechia gave him a strong foundation for his career. Looking back on his study years, he described Czechia as an “amazing place to study, especially for the natural sciences,” and shared fond memories of his time in Brno.
Among the participants, we had a chance to briefly talk to the Deputy Head of Mission, Lukáš Janeček.
He reflected on the value of events like this and expressed his gratitude for the support of the Czech-Mongolian alumni community. For many Mongolian alumni, he said, it was meaningful to see that their connection to Czechia is still appreciated and supported.
The event ended at around 6 pm, closing on a strong note of friendship between Mongolia and Czechia. The meetup was more than a reunion. It was a reminder that studying abroad does not end with graduation. It continues through friendships, professional paths, shared language, and the memories that alumni carry with them for life. As one participant beautifully summed it up: “I had a wonderful time at the event. Studying in Czechia opened the door to my future, and I am very grateful to the Czech people for that.”
