Course description:
The educational module focuses on practical solutions to multidisciplinary tasks using numerical analysis in the COMSOL Multiphysics software. The module will first introduce the finite element method in an understandable way and teach how to use the COMSOL Multiphysics system through practical examples. The module will then focus on procedures for simulating user-defined equations, fluid flow, heat transfer, electromagnetic fields, and structural mechanics. For each physics-oriented topic, graduates will set up a simulation model to gain real-world experience with common industrial analyses (static, dynamic, modal, frequency, transient). Finally, graduates will try integrating the model into a development system using a simulation application and creating a digital twin based on a neural network. The result of the course is mastery of COMSOL Multiphysics as a tool, with an explanation and practice of how to control and use the strengths of the system, and a clear demonstration of the system's philosophy. The course is supported by a team of experts from HUMUSOFT, s. r. o., the official distributor of COMSOL and MATLAB for the Czech Republic.
Course content:
The MC module consists of 13 three-hour teaching blocks in a computer classroom. This is followed by three hours set aside for the submission and presentation of final projects prepared individually by module participants. Furthermore, self-study, preparation of a final project including a protocol with simulation results and a presentation for the project defense are expected, totaling 88 hours.
Teaching blocks:
- Practical fundamentals of the finite element method
- Graphical interface and geometry creation
- Mesh generation and postprocessing
- Modeling based on mathematical description of the problém
- Fluid flow simulation (CFD)
- Heat transfer simulation
- Electromagnetism simulation (electrostatics, AC, DC, RF)
- Charged particles tracing
- Simulation of elasticity, strength, and dynamics
- Neural Networks, creating Digital Twin and simulation apps
- Processing of project solutions with individual assignments, consultation with the instructor
