You will deepen your knowledge in the fields of pragmatics, stylistics, the historical development of English, and sociolinguistics. You will become familiar with current trends in Anglophone literature and culture, and enhance your skills in interpreting texts as a literary theorist and critic. You will develop your communication skills at the C2 level and learn to think within broader cultural contexts. On top of all this, you will get an excellent foundation for your potential further studies at the PhD level.

Study

Graduates will acquire a high level of communicative competence (C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference) and in-depth knowledge of the field, i.e., English linguistics, its structure and historical development, and English and American literature understood within broader cultural and theoretical-philosophical contexts. They are able to critically analyze both academic and literary English texts. In literary analysis, they are further able to apply various theoretical approaches. They are familiar with the context of the target culture and are able to reflect on it theoretically. They have deepened their ability to create and effectively process texts in the English language and to communicate about cultural products of the target language. They demonstrate an appropriate degree of sensitivity when working in a culturally and linguistically diverse team.

Study fee

The programme is subject to tuition fees of CZK 45,000 (ca. EUR 1,800) per academic year.
