University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice - Faculty of Science
The bachelor’s degree programme “Physics with a Focus on Secondary School Education” is designed as a double-subject programme providing students with a solid foundation in physics together with the pedagogical and didactic background necessary for future teaching at secondary schools. The programme is intended not only for future physics teachers, but also for students interested in broader science-oriented or interdisciplinary education. Its main goal is to prepare graduates for follow-up master’s degree programmes in Teacher Education for Secondary Schools and Science Teacher Education for Secondary Schools. At the same time, the programme allows students to shape their own academic profile through the selection of elective courses and the focus of their bachelor’s thesis according to their individual interests. During their studies, students may therefore develop a deeper interest in areas such as experimental physics, physics education research, or interdisciplinary topics connecting physics with other natural sciences. As a result, it is not uncommon for graduates to continue their studies in more professionally oriented master’s degree programmes.

Graduates of the study programme acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in physics, pedagogy, didactics, and psychology, enabling them to orient themselves in contemporary approaches to lesson planning, teaching, and reflection. They are prepared to work with modern educational methods and to apply current trends in science education. Graduates may find employment, for example, as teaching assistants, educators, or professionals in the field of informal education. In addition to its pedagogical component, the programme also provides a solid foundation in experimental physics and the measurement of physical quantities. Graduates understand the principles of measurement, the sources of experimental errors, and methods for their minimization and data analysis. These skills also enable them to work as technical staff in laboratories, research and development departments, or technology-oriented companies. In most cases, however, the bachelor’s programme primarily serves as preparation for continuing studies in follow-up master’s degree programmes focused either on teacher education or on further professional specialization.
