Study

The programme provides education in parasitology-oriented disciplines with the participation of experts actively engaged in parasitological research. The assigned master’s thesis topics cover the fields of medical and veterinary parasitology as well as basic research into the biology of parasitic organisms and their relationships with hosts. The graduate acquires knowledge of parasitism as a life strategy of organisms, of parasites as organisms with specialized life adaptations, and of parasitic diseases as important evolutionary as well as medical and economic factors. Within the individual courses, You gain this knowledge from various perspectives: • The position of parasitic groups of organisms within overall biodiversity and their specific adaptations to parasitism. • Parasitism as a major evolutionary factor shaping biodiversity and significantly influencing the evolution of all organisms. • Parasites as medically and veterinary significant factors, including an overview of the most important parasitic groups and their clinical manifestations. • Parasites in interaction with the host immune system, the course of the immune response, and the pathogenesis of parasitic diseases. • Specific biochemical and molecular adaptations of parasites. • Further expansion of this parasitological foundation is provided through the selection of lectures chosen by the student from related programmes within the credit system. The acquired knowledge enables graduates to work in specialized medical and veterinary laboratories, in basic and applied research, and in education.
