University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice - Faculty of Health and Social Sciences
The study programme is designed on the basis of current knowledge and experience gained from the implementation of doctoral education and reflects labour market requirements as well as the graduate profile, with a focus on the professional role of a social worker who acquires advanced research and scientific competencies through completion of the programme. The aim of the doctoral study programme is to prepare graduates to respond effectively to current research challenges and emerging scientific topics in the field of social work. The programme enables students to develop a comprehensive understanding of social work issues not only within the national context but also from an international perspective.
New students are admitted once a year, with entrance examinations usually in June. Apply electronically. After completing the form, you will be registered in ZSF JU records and you consent to the processing of personal data. The Doctoral Studies Office registers it after you submit the printed, completed and signed form. Attach certified proof of completed higher education. For Social Work, attach proof of the state language exam in English; if you do not have it, you take the exam on the admission day. Also attach a CV, overview of professional activities, list of publications, draft doctoral thesis topic and content according to https://www.zsf.jcu.cz/cz/studium/doktorske-studium, proposed supervisor and consent, and proof of payment of the administrative fee.
The programme equips students to respond to current societal challenges requiring research-oriented approaches. They learn to design comprehensive research projects in social work, including sound methodological frameworks, and to analyse data using advanced software in both qualitative and quantitative research strategies. You gain skills in mixed-methods research as a basis for developing practical solutions and connecting research findings with their application, aiming to improve the quality of social services and the lives of clients. The programme emphasises adherence to ethical standards in research and its impact on practice, as well as critical engagement with various research sources (e.g. systematic reviews, meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, and scientific articles). Students apply principles of evidence-based theory and practice and reflect on developments in the social sector in light of relevant forecasts. It also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to address real-world needs and develop comprehensive solutions. Graduates are prepared to present and publish their research and find employment, for example, as specialists in coordinated rehabilitation for clients with health disadvantages or in management roles within social work, where they contribute to linking different professions to meet practical needs.
