The study program is a technically focused geological field that includes all areas of geological research and exploration activities. Professional education is focused on the education of an operational geologist, for whom the scientific and technical basis will enable rapid professional adaptability to related and interdisciplinary fields.

The manner and conditions of submitting the application for the Bachelor study In order to apply for admission to a bachelor’s degree programme, the applicant must meet, by the prescribed deadline, the following requirements applicable to programmes taught in English: - Submit an electronic application form at < https://prihlaska.vsb.cz/uchazec/studium/6>. - Submit a certificate/ school report for the penultimate year of secondary school as an attachment to the electronic application (usually year 3). - Insert the value of the arithmetic mean (rounded off to 2 decimal places) of the school report marks obtained during the penultimate year of secondary school education (the marks to calculate the arithmetic mean must comply with the Czech assessment principles). - Pay an administrative fee of CZK 600 for the admission procedure. An applicant whose application has satisfied the requirements for submission must, by the specified deadline, also provide the following documents applicable to programmes taught in English: - secondary school-leaving certificate; - document confirming the completion of secondary school education including the school-leaving examination if the education was obtained abroad (this does not apply to equivalent documents, e.g. from Slovakia). The procedure to acknowledge completed secondary education obtained abroad is described in the document TUO_SME_20_003 “Assessment of Applicants’ Foreign Education within the Admission Procedure at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava” <https://dokumenty.vsb.cz/docs/files/en/9f06014d-db84-46c0-a5a5-4432e0b442e6>. If the assessment of previous education will take place within the admission procedure, it is necessary to deliver the necessary documents (see <https://www.vsb.cz/en/university/university-services/recognition-of-foreign-education/>) in paper form (address: VŠB-TUO, study department FMG, 17. listopadu 2172/15, 708 33 Ostrava-Poruba, Czech Republic) no later than 30 days before the deadline for delivery of attachments to the electronic application. After this deadline, the university does not guarantee a timely assessment of previous education; - language certificate. The candidate is obliged to demonstrate the ability to study in the selected language. In cases worthy of special consideration, the Dean may waive this examination. The applicant must pass entrance exam. The evaluation of the applicability of graduates of the field of study Applied Geology shows that 70% of graduates have found employment in the private sector, 20% in state administration and other parts of the state and 10% work in scientific research positions. These are mainly the following positions: • laboratory staff, • staff of the research team, • specialist technician, • state administration officer, • pedagogical worker at secondary school, • researcher at the university or Academy of Science or in the commercial sphere.
