The follow-up Master's degree programme Energy Engineering builds upon the Bachelor's degree programme Energetics and Environments. However, the programme is also attended by graduates of other technical degree programmes and fields of study, both from VSB – Technical University of Ostrava and from other universities in Czechia and abroad. Within the core compulsory part of the curriculum, students further develop their knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and combustion theory. They also acquire a more detailed understanding of the design and operation of the principal equipment used in the energy sector, including boilers, turbines, compressors, power plants, internal combustion engines, refrigeration systems, and related technologies. In addition, you gain knowledge in the areas of water management in the energy sector, air protection, and the operation, control, diagnostics, and maintenance of energy systems.

Study

Graduates are able to use professional terminology and prepare technical documentation in the field of energy engineering. They are capable of interpreting technical drawings and, based on their knowledge of the principal engineering methods of the discipline (e.g. preparation of energy balances and assessment of the energy demand of processes), they are able to analyse problems and implement practical solutions. They are qualified to operate and manage both energy systems and individual machines and equipment. Graduates are capable of designing, implementing, evaluating, and diagnosing energy-related installations, including energy systems, and assessing their efficiency. They are able to present results and participate in innovation activities in the energy sector. Furthermore, they are capable of carrying out basic energy measurements aimed at optimizing the operation of energy machines and equipment, analysing the potential of alternative energy sources, and performing thermal and other energy-related calculations as well as engineering design tasks. Graduates are able to approach their work creatively and proactively, manage more complex professional activities or projects, including planning, implementation, and feedback acquisition, and assume responsibility for all related decision-making processes. They are able to work effectively either under supervision or in partnership with qualified specialists and to lead multidisciplinary, complex, and diverse teams. Graduates are capable of formulating and presenting their own opinions while taking into account the views of other team members. They are able to communicate information, ideas, problems, and solutions clearly and effectively to both specialists and the general public using a variety of communication techniques. In addition, they are able to communicate their knowledge and skills in at least one foreign language. Owing to their sound theoretical background and knowledge of engineering tools, technologies, and methods, graduates possess the necessary prerequisites for flexible adaptation to the requirements of professional practice.
