Study programme Processing E-application About study programme The PhD study branch is open to graduates of technological fields of processing of mineral resources, waste recycling and water technology. Processing is a scientific discipline that is traditionally related to research and development of technologies to do with mineral resources and water that do not have a useful value as mined, thus being unusable. The scientific work aims to prepare highly qualified scientific workers, especially for the field of research and development of low-waste or non-waste mineral technologies and improving environmental quality.

The manner and conditions of submitting the application for the doctoral study In order to submit an application for doctoral studies, the applicant must, by the deadline specified in the admission requirements, meet the following conditions:  Submit an electronic application form at <https://prihlaska.vsb.cz/uchazec/studium/6>.  Choose the general topic of the doctoral thesis in the selected degree programme/field of study. This topic is a mandatory entry of the application. Applicants are advised to consult the supervisor about the topic before submitting the application.  Enter the intermediate results of the (follow-up) Master’s study and the value of the arithmetic mean (rounded to 2 decimal places) from the results from the first to the last but one semester. If the applicant has already obtained a (follow-up) Master’s Degree and Diploma Supplement, he/she will insert both of these documents in an attachment.  Pay an administrative fee of CZK 600. An applicant whose application has met the conditions for submission of the application must further submit, by the deadline specified in the admission requirements, as attachments to the electronic application:  Master’s degree (follow-up),  diploma supplement,  structured curriculum vitae,  list of published and unpublished works (if any),  other documents (if any, e.g. evidence of previous experience, proof of state examination in a foreign language),  document confirming the fact the candidate completed a higher education Master Programme if s/he obtained the higher education degree abroad (this does not apply to equivalent documents, e.g. from Slovakia). The procedure to acknowledge completed education obtained abroad is described in the document “Assessment of Applicants’ Foreign Education within the Admission Procedure at VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava” <https://dokumenty.vsb.cz/docs/files/en/9f06014d-db84-46c0-a5a5-4432e0b442e6>;  language certificate. The candidate is obliged to demonstrate the ability to study in the selected language. In cases worthy of special consideration, the Dean may waive this examination. In the case of applicants who have duly submitted an application with all required documents, a decision on their admission shall be made on the basis of an entrance examination, which is a necessary condition for the applicant’s admission to study. The entrance examination board will assess the achievements in the (follow-up) master´s study programme and expertise in relation to the chosen study programme and framework topic. Assessment is based on the submitted documents, i.e. the arithmetic mean, CV, list of published and unpublished works, or other documents and on the basis of an interview with the applicant. In exceptional cases, especially for foreign applicants and having regard to the circumstances that prevent the personal presence of the applicant, the admission committee may, at the request of the applicant, decide on an interview by videoconference. The presentation on the solution of the selected dissertation topic of up to 5 minutes will be prepared by the candidate in advance in PowerPoint and sent by the deadline specified in the invitation to the interview by email to studijni.hgf@vsb.cz or delivered to the study office on an electronic data carrier. For his/her needs, the candidate will have a presentation on a USB for the interview. The admission interview will also include verification of the applicant's English language skills. In exceptional cases, especially for foreign applicants and having regard to the circumstances that prevent the personal presence of the applicant, the admission committee may, at the request of the applicant, decide on an interview by videoconference. You will take the entrance examination electronically through the information system. You will receive detailed instructions for the entrance examination through the information system. The facts supporting the study requirements: - evaluation of the candidate’s study results in the (follow-up) Master’s degree programme (the field) of study and its relation to the selected field of study of the doctoral study, including the topic and focus of the candidate’s diploma thesis, - evaluation of the candidate’s professional and creative activities to date (professional experience, participation in student scientific and professional activities, cooperation in grant projects, etc.), - evaluation of the candidate’s publications to date, - assessment of the prerequisites of the candidate’s research and development work and prerequisites for the solution of the selected dissertation thesis topic on the basis of the candidate’s presentation and subsequent professional discussion. The committee will evaluated candidates with points ranging from 0 to 150 points (POINTS FOR AVERAGE (0-90) and POINTS FOR ADMISSION COMMITTEE (0-60; min. 20)), Appendix 2 The Rules for Admission Procedure and Conditions for Admission to Study in the Doctoral Study in English language at the Faculty of Mining and Geology at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava. A graduate of the doctoral degree programme in Mineral Processing is qualified for independent scientific, research and university-level teaching roles in the field studied and in related disciplines. Graduates may therefore find employment in institutions engaged in science, research, development and innovation, in specialised laboratories, in the applied sector, in the minerals and raw materials industry, at universities and technically oriented higher education institutions, in the commercial sector, and in public administration.
