Scholarship searching for me began once I finished my high school because I know that studying abroad costs a lot and it is hard for me since I’m coming from low-income family but never lost hope and I started digging every possible opportunity that is offered from institutions, foundations, governments like the Czech Republic, and even embassies’ websites.

I was so lucky to know about the governmental Czech Republic scholarship that is offered to international students to study in the Czech language. It was a hard competition and long journey but it paid off once I landed in Václav Havel Airport, Prague on September 9th, 2015.

I found the announcement of the scholarship at the Czech Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE website. I opened the link and I started filling the application. It was easy and motivating to fill my personal information, academic history such as high school information, grades and High School diploma. Then, it started getting interesting to write a motivation letter of 100 words. I tried to show my interests, long term goals and the mutual benefits of this once life opportunity scholarship. Last part was choosing the program that I would like to study and I chose medicine.

After a week, I got an email with an IQ short 15 questions test. I got 13 out of 15. So, within a month I got nominated to the third stage of the interview at the Czech Embassy honorary consulate in Sana’a, Yemen where I’m from. We were around 60 students and the interview lasted for 30 mins each with the Consul of the Czech Embassy in Abu Dhabi through skype. I was asked about similar questions that were in the application and I was asked about my motivation to study abroad and why the especially the Czech Republic.

After a month, I was congratulated that I was chosen with other 14 students to send some required documents such as certificates, CV, medical form, and application that I had to refill again and signed. May 15th, 2015, I got a congratulating email from the consul that I’m officially a recipient of the Czech Republic governmental scholarship out of 5 students from whole Yemen. Now, I’m in my third year majoring in a medical laboratory.

My advice for any student who is looking for a scholarship is to search well and try your best to meet the requirement, write a great motivation letter and be determinate on how you are visualizing your future as a young leader and successful change maker. I wish you all the best and luck in your searching journey and being a great ambassador at your future institution. Again, never hesitate to reach out to our Study in the Czech Republic Ambassadors to help you and assist you if necessary.
