cultural sociology taught me how to understand the structural meanings behind all things in society.”

Social Studies on the Cultural Sociology joint degree programme co-organised by Masaryk University, the University of Graz in Austria, the University of Zadar in Croatia and the University of Trento in Italy.

One of the reasons I chose Brno was that I had studied at Masaryk University in 2011 as an exchange student and knew both the city and the university well. With a bachelor’s degree in political science from the US, I enrolled two years ago at the MU Faculty of Social Studies on the Cultural Sociology joint degree programme co-organised by Masaryk University, the University of Graz in Austria, the University of Zadar in Croatia and the University of Trento in Italy.

Cultural Sociology was a perfect way for me to continue my studies and help me in my chosen field of International Education. While it’s not “directly” related, cultural sociology taught me how to understand the structural meanings behind all things in society, which helps with planning how to organize summer school programs, creating marketing, and in general interact with students from around the world.

I graduated in July 2019 and was able to continue working in the field of International Education at Masaryk University. Before starting my masters, I had worked as a Study Abroad Coordinator for 4 years at the University of Vermont in the United States. It was my goal to continue working in this field after graduating, which is why I reached out to the Centre for International Cooperation for a student job during my masters’ studies. During this time, I created content for the Masaryk University Instagram account for international students. After graduating I was hired by Masaryk University Centre for International Cooperation as the summer school manager. Additionally, I will be working for the Faculty of Social Studies promote their study 9 programmes taught in English in September. I’m ecstatic to be able to stay at Masaryk University and help future international students.
