Hi! I’m Mebae from Japan, doing a master’s degree in Czech Studies at Charles University in Prague. María has already introduced our university and faculty, so today I’ll write about the Institute of Czech Studies (ICS - Institute of Czech Studies/Ústav bohemistických studií.)

ICS is a place, where cultivate and protect the long tradition of the field Czech as a foreign language of Charles University in Prague. ICS offers not only bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes but also the summer language school, which has celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2016.

Study programmes, which currently offers ICS:

- Bachelor’s degree course,

- Bachelor’s programme – Intercultural communication,

- Courses of Czech for foreigners at FF UK,

- Czech language courses for scholarships holders (Erasmus, CEEPUS etc.),

- The follow-up master’s degree programme (https://ubs.ff.cuni.cz/en/study/courses/).

Since I’ve already graduated from university in Japan with a BA in Czech Studies, now I’m studying in the follow-up master’s degree programme at ICS. The quality of lectures is absolutely high because every professor and lecturer are well-experienced in teaching the Czech language at foreign universities. This semester I have eight lectures a week and they are about linguistics, literature and Czech culture and history. There are about fifteen classmates from various countries, although I’ve never met any of them in person due to the situation related to the pandemic. I’m really looking forward to seeing them in the classroom!

Information about other study programmes are available at STUDY IN web

If you have some questions for me, I’m also available on Instagram (@_kaprvevane_), where I’m offering information mainly for Japanese people, who want to live or study in the Czech Republic.

I hope that you can find the best course for your study here!
