What made you decide to study in Czechia?

My decision to study in Czechia was deeply personal. My grandfather was Czech, so choosing to study here was also a way to reconnect with my roots and learn more about the country that’s part of my family history. At the same time, studying abroad had always been a dream of mine, and Czechia felt like the perfect place to make it come true, combining quality education, rich culture, and a sense of home I didn’t expect to find so far from where I grew up.

Did your studies meet your expectations? How did you find the study programme, instructors, university facilities? Were there any differences from studying in your country?

Yes, my studies definitely met my expectations. I study English Philology at the University of Pardubice, in a programme that is mainly designed for Czech students but taught mostly in English, which makes it quite special. My teachers are great, very well educated, supportive, and always understanding of my situation as the only international student in the class. The university is modern, and the facilities make studying very comfortable. Compared to my home country, I’ve noticed that students here are encouraged to work more independently and take responsibility for their learning, which has helped me grow a lot both academically and personally.

What was your most memorable experience or what did you enjoy most as a student in Czechia?

My most memorable experience has been studying alongside Czech students. It allowed me to make many great friends and feel included in their culture, traditions, and daily life. At the same time, I also have close friends from the international community, so I’ve had the chance to experience both sides, the local Czech student life and the international student environment. It’s been really special to be in the middle of both worlds and learn from each.

How do you think your time in Czechia has helped your studies and/or your career?

Studying in Czechia has helped me become more independent, responsible, adaptable, and open-minded. Academically, it strengthened my research and communication skills, and overall, it has prepared me well for future career opportunities both in Europe.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about studying in Czechia?

My advice would be to try to learn Czech (a little bit at least) it’s not only useful for everyday life, but it’s also a great opportunity for your academic and career development. It opens doors to deeper cultural understanding, better communication, and more opportunities both during and after your studies. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, Czechia is a great place to grow both personally and professionally.
